Shows > Super Strings Theory

Saturday 2:00pm - 4:00pm
with Robbie Hayward & Jonathan Wilson. Would you marry the love child of Boy George and Paganini? Whatever, this show's for you!

Superstring Theory is an attempt to explain all of the particles and fundamental forces of nature in one theory by modelling them as vibrations of tiny supersymmetric strings.

Super Strings Theory is what happens when two guys (not physicists, so don't panic) search desperately for a pun based on the fact that they like a lot of music with violins in it. Super Strings Theory is the only way to spend your Saturday - music from across the world (but mainly Canada), hilarious wit and original comedy from the lovable Geordie (not that you'd guess it) duo of Robbie Hayward and Jonathan Wilson, and all the fun and frolicking you could legally handle on a weekend afternoon.

With such ever-popular delights as 'the 11:37 News Hour (now at 3.37)' and 'Robbie and WIlson play a song on ukulele and mandolin and then you guess what it is and who it's by to win a CD' there is truly no better accompaniment to your Saturday afternoon of pretending you don't have an essay to write.

So if you're tired of the same old radio nonsense and need something new, vote for change you can believe in, vote for Super Strings Theory (for vote, read listen).

A New Year, A New Hope...

A long time ago, in a studio far, far away from being fixed, Super Strings Theory returned for a brand new year of radio goodness. Here is the podcast of that show, replete with all the usual hilarity and genius. Enjoy!

It's here, the podcast the world has been waiting for: Super Strings Theory's Top 20 Albums of 2009. Find out where your favourites appeared on our list and discover what you missed last year, all interspersed with the brilliant chatter you'd expect from Super Strings Theory.

Servers, Sufjan and Strings

Here's another catch-up podcast for you all, this time from 12th December 2009, when Super Strings returned to the Rare FM studio after a three week long server-related break. Are we rusty? Are we hell, this is Super Strings Theory!

For many months we've been intending to give our loyal listeners an insight into the daily musical adventures of the super strings boys. So join us in the deepest darkest crevasses of internet-blogs and webpages on our internet-spanning journey to find new alternative/folk/canadian music.

Join us today on Facebook - Super Strings Theory and get a golden-nugget of music every day, courtesy of youtube of course.

If you're not tempted yet. We'll start you off with a lovely youtube video and a free download.

'In This Shirt' from the debut album 'Mirror Mirror' by The Irrepressibles. This just takes me back to The Lake at Latitude festival every time I hear it. This is a discovery that made our festival, and the album is truly stunning!

Here is the free download I promised. Taken from the third Woodpigeon album 'Die Stadt Muzikanten', Empty-Hall-Sing-Along  shows off all of Mark Hamilton's twisty-turny alt-pop charm. Loveliness at its loveliest!

Surely, every man would be sufficiently titillated by these New Year gifts to join us on air every Saturday from 2-4PM and to follow us on the aforementioned facebook group.

All the love in the world,

Your Super Strings Boys xxx

Super Strings Theory continue to guide you on your spiritual journey through the (university) year's shows so far. Here is our fifth, which promises a slightly darker vibe to accompany the usual twee.

Super Strings Theory would like to welcome you into the new decade with another cloudcast from times past. This one from November features our usual brilliance, along with tracks from our live session with Dan Mangan (watch the videos here). Enjoy!

It's like Christmas come late: Super Strings Theory are continuing to release all their podcasts from this year, so here's another October classic.

A Whatcast?

Super Strings Theory proudly return to the world of podcasting. Or, more accurately, the world of cloudcasting. Powered by the lovely people at mixcloud.com SST are producing podcasts of all their shows this year, with music included. So if you missed the show, or you want to relive the good old days of October, or if you're just feeling low on Canadian indie-folk, then visit our mixcloud site or stayed tuned to our blog here on Rare to get your fill of Strings.

To kick off the cloudcasting, here is our first show of the year, from way back at the start of October.

Oh yes, it's that time again!  After a whole Summer where the radio was quiet, where the airwaves lay dormant and children cried because the strings were not Super Strings, everybody's two favourite DJs are set to return to their rightful place behind the microphones of Rare FM.  At the brand new time of 2pm on Saturday afternoons, Robbie and Jonathan will revive their legendary show, Super Strings Theory, with the same energy, fun and modesty the world has come to know and love.

And the best thing of all?  It starts today.

Tune in to Rare FM from 2pm.
